My email does not seem to be working. I sent a message to myself and have not received that message. Where is my email?

Hi, @bonomij Welcome to the Canvas Community! Canvas doesn't have a built-in email function, so our members won't be able to assist you with an external email application.
Are you referring to a message sent through the Canvas Inbox? If so, you can view your own messages by toggling to the Sent view in the Inbox—and you can additionally customize your external notification preferences to receive a notification of "Conversations Created By Me" for which the default setting is "Do not send." You didn't say whether you're an instructor or a student, but How do I set my Canvas notification preferences as a student? provides general instructions.
