[ARCHIVED] Why can some students see the muted assignments before I unmute them?

It seems like after about a week of the assignment being muted, the assignment automatically unmutes. Typically when I manually unmute the assignment, a notification is sent out to the class letting them know that it is now available to view. There have been several incidents when the assignment has become available for them to view without me manually unmuting them and sending out this notification. Any idea what could be causing this?

I have some questions with what you mean by 'mute'.  Right now in the old gradebook there is a mute/unmute feature which only impacts grades.  This feature is being replaced by How do I use posting policies in a course?‌

If you're talking about availability of the assignment itself, you may want to check your assignment settings to see what 'available dates' you have set?  If there is an available date set then the assignment will become available to students upon that date.
