Until this semester, Spring 2020, I could set an assignment to display the grade as either points or percentage. If I chose to display the grade as a percentage in the grade book, Canvas would automatically calculate the percent if I input the point value in the grade book. Canvas would calculate the percent based on the point value I set up in the assignment. Now this semester, when I enter the point value in the grade book expecting Canvas to calculate and display the percent value, the grade shows the point value as the percentage by simply adding a % symbol. I have to calculate every grade and enter the proper percent value. Why did Canvas remove this capability of calculating percentage?

There is an Enter Grades As option that you may not have set correctly. The following guide provides directions
How do I enter grades for an individual assignment as a specific grading type in the Gradebook?

Thank you for responding.
I know about the Display Grade As setting. I set it to Percent, then when you enter the points that students earned, the grade book used to calculate those points to a percentage. Now, when you enter the points, Canvas just adds on a % sign. No calculation.
This is a function I have used for that last several years. After Canvas did an update to the grade book this winter, it no longer translates the entered points into a correct percent.
@cweber3 , you might want to read through (and perhaps vote for) https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/15275-gradebook-convert-raw-score-to-percentage .
Thank you. Yes, I am so glad others have confirmed what I see. How do I vote?
As long as you're logged in, simply click the Vote Up button that displays near the top of the page. Adding a comment is optional, but always welcome.
Thank you again!
I tried to log in and it will not allow me to log in. Another colleague also had the same issue. Will try again later.
Thanks so much.
Thank you. Yes, I am so glad others have confirmed what I see. The explanation under Raw Score - How to Convert a Percentage explains the situation perfectly. How do I vote to bring that function back? Why would Canvas eliminate that function? Baffled.
