Greetings,
How can I add someone as a teacher/TA to multiple courses at once? or by the same token, have Teacher/TA access to a swath of courses? I can imagine that making a sub-account would take care of it. My institution is new, however, and is squeamish about making sub-accounts. Should we be?
Thanks
@thatcher_bohrma , I'm not sure of your role or expertise with using the back end of Canvas, but you can do this using the API or the enrollments CSV via SIS imports. I'm not an expert in either of these , but I got the information from our back-end Canvas programmer. On the front end you can also do this manually - one by one - which isn't too efficient, which is why I'd suggest the API or SIS import options. If you've got specific questions about back end Canvas programming, the best place for those questions is the Canvas Developers group.
Hope this helps!
I haven't done any importing on that level as there is a web-programmer that does that currently, though I'm sure I could learn. Have you ever set up sub-accounts to accomplish this?
Personally, I'd recommend trying the SIS imports via CSV first. It seemed a less steep learning curve to me. And yes, you can use text files with sub-accounts. You can create people, courses, and enrollments and specify sub-accounts using SIS imports.
The only time we've setup sub-accounts is for program coordinators who need access to large numbers of courses (like 30+) each semester and for a given course code (ex: all NURS or all WELD). These people aren't the instructors of these courses, but they are in charge of "coordinating" them.
That pretty much the case here. I am going to talk with the programmer and get his take on it. Thanks for your advice!
If that's the case then sub accounts work great and take a LOT of hassle out of worrying about adding the coordinator to a ton of different courses each semester! We've been doing it for a while and it's been wonderful!
We are giving the Canvas Admins area a little bit of love (especially questions that are really, really old) and just want to check in with you. This will also bring this question new attention.
Were you able to find an answer to your question? I am going to go ahead and mark this question as answered because there hasn't been any more activity in a while so I assume that you have the information that you need. If you still have a question about this or if you have information that you would like to share with the community, by all means, please do come back and leave a comment. Also, if this question has been answered by one of the previous replies, please feel free to mark that answer as correct.
