can I use the "edit/insert media" icon in the edit bar on a Canvas Page to embed a wmv or mp4 video that I have uploaded to my canvas course files?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Unfortunately, the answer is no. If you already have the file in the course, you can link to it using the Content Selector.

That is what I did. With the wmv file, it simply shows a text link. When the student clicks on the link it downloads the wmv file so it can be played on their desktop with Windows Media Player. HOWEVER, if I use an mp4 file, it actually shows a thumbnail poster shot of the video below the text link, AND when the student clicks on the text or the thumbnail, the video opens within the canvas page at full size as if it is actually embedded! I don't see anything about this in the documentation. If you want to control the size of the video, simply put it in a table with a fixed pixel width.
