Is the iOS App being updated? We've had several issues with students being able to take quizzes or navigate through the app easily. However, I think it's more user friendly than the web version. If it is not functional though, it is a challenge. Some teacher are frustrated with the app, yet they know their students use it more.
Several schools and I had a meeting with their iOS team several months back. They alluded to a big update happening ( hopefully this summer ).
I can only hope. The app has seemed to have more and more trouble for us when we add in web-links and such. Again, I like the UI better for the students but if the functionality is not there: what's the point?
I currently have my students navigate from announcements to assignments and other sections. Sometimes they are waiting a long time for things to load. That's tough.

Thanks Kristin. Yes, we still are having some struggles with the app so I just signed up to be part of beta group!
We seem to be having more issues with the iOS app when quizzing. Saying kids have taken it, won't let kids have multiple attempts, and or locking it completely even when it isn't locked.

I usually just have the student go to the website directly in this case. Sometimes it is more of a pain than others. Students usually use "web canvas" for doing things other than directly turning a file in on their iPads....I do wish the iOS app was continually reliable!
