I know that is frustrating.
In my experience, privacy settings for your device can get changed. You might consider also verifying that your Canvas site has permission to access your microphone via your browser.
Does it work when trying to record your voice in other parts of Canvas? If you are on windows, try going to the start menu>settings>privacy>select microphone and make sure the necessary apps have access.
For your browser, and it may differ depending on which one you use, go to settings>privacy and security>site settings and check to see which sites have permission to access your microphone.
It's always good to double check what device your computer is using as far as microphone and making sure that it's not muted in your system settings or on the device itself.
