In August I was able to create assignments that asked students to download an audio file (.mp3) from the assignment page (and then save it to their iPad to bring into an assignment in GarageBand). With the new updates, the audio files I upload into Canvas now seem to embed directly into the assignment - and no longer allow us to save the audio file to their devices. What am I missing? How can I distribute .mp3 files through Canvas to my students now? (Middle school musicians)

I didn't try this on an iPad, but I did on an iPhone running iOS 14 (which shouldn't be much different than the iPad) and was able to get this to work.
I added a file to the assignment by linking the mp3 in the files section of my course. Once done, in the app, I did the following:
I hope this helps. If not, please share some screenshots of how you are linking to the file and what it looks like in the app. Thanks.

Thank you for this.
I linked to the file as you described but "save to files" is not an option from the share screen for me. Is there a way I can open that up as an option or, even better, have share "to garageband" be an option?
You can upload the audio and video files into the files area...and enable people to download directly from the files area.
What I'm finding is Canvas only allows the file to be downloaded as an MP4 file. Somehow it converts it from an MP3 to an MP4. How can I allow students to download it as an MP3?
