Assignment dates cannot be after end of term

Hi all,

I am new as the Canvas Adm on our campus and have a question. I have an instructor that is trying to add an assignment for a spring course but when he try's to add it he gets a notice that the assignment cannot be after the end of term. I have checked that the course is built correctly and it is, the course ends 10 days after the date he is trying to add the assignment due date (he is trying to have the assignment due on May 11, course ends on May 22). Any suggestions?

What do you have set for dates in the Terms page of your Canvas account?  How do I use the Terms page in an account? - Canvas Community  This is where you should check to see if the assignment is running outside of the term dates that you may have established for a given term.

I am a local admin and do not seem to have access to that feature. I assume then I should contact my system wide admin to check this for me?

Did the instructor check the box in the course settings to only allow students to participate in the course between these dates? If that box is not checked, then the end date for the course is ignored and the term end date is used instead.

The other possibility is that there are section dates that are overriding it. If you have specified the dates on the sections (Course Settings > Sections, then Edit Section) AND the box there is selected, then it overrides the course dates.

Course section dates override course dates and those override term dates, but only if the box is selected so that students can participate between the dates. If that box isn't checked, then the values are ignored.

At our institution, we set term dates but we also set the course dates. We do not specify section dates on the SIS import that creates the course, but some schools might.
