Glitch? Why is the essay question answer key box visible to students?

Hello,

I have a quizzes with essay questions. I put my answer in the general answer comments box to make it easy for me to grade.  Based on the blatant plagerism a few students turned in on their 2nd attempt, it is obvious that my "answer key" is visible to them.  I don't know why it's showing.  On the quiz settings  I have a check by Let Students See Their Quiz Responses, because I want them to be able to copy/paste and fix rather than start over, but I do not have a check by Let Students See The Correct Answers.   Why are they able to see my answer key?  If the general comments box isn't meant to be a place for our answer key, can that be a new feature that is added.   My only other option is to save my key as a word document and go searching for that document every time a student turns in that assignment.

There is no "answer key" space for essay type questions.  The general answer comments are visible to all students as soon as they reach that question.  More explanation is given here https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12725-415243384

Okay.   An answer key section really needs to be added.   The only other option I have is to save my answer keys in word documents and then try to find the correct document every time a student turns in an assignment.   it would be nice if we could just store our answers next to the questions or on assignments.

Agreed--an answer key (with a rich-text box) is essential. I saw the word "Solved" at the top of this thread and was duped into thinking that word meant that the problem was solved.  My hopes were dashed when I kept reading and found that the "solution" was simply the knowledge that Canvas had no solution and gave no indication that a solution was being sought by them at all. 

If Canvas insists on phasing out Classic Quizzes next summer as they have indicated, they need to make sure that New Quizzes has all the necessary functionality of Classic quizzes. An answer key is certainly a necessary functionality. If they have no plans on adding a rich text box to essay questions as a place for the teacher to put an answer key, then they should not phase out Classic quizzes.

@dskutt Grading notes, only visible to the instructor, are available to users of New Quizzes essay questions, as detailed in  How do I create an Essay question in New Quizzes?

Is this "grading notes" function also available in Classic Quizzes?

Thank you for that clarification. Is there a reason it is not a rich text box? It would be nice to post pictures or equations in that box. For example, if a student is to draw a diagram, the answer key needs to contain that diagram. Is that possible?
