How to get my students in a Canvas roster?

I am a high school teacher and have been using a paid version of Canvas through the community college who provides the dual credit for my high school students. I want to learn how to use the free version form my freshman and sophomore level classes.

I have created a Canvas account, have started a module, have imported a test bank and now I need to find out how to enter my students to the class who will eventually take their tests there.

How do I create a class (one hour including 20 students)? And how do I add the students who can log in from an ipad and take the test?

Hi Robert,

In Canvas, Free for Teachers, you use email invitations to get your students added to the course.  You can do this from the People area within the course.  Does that answer your question?

Hello! Thank you for this thread - I am looking at setting up the free version of Canvas too. I am wondering if there are other ways to roster students than just manually adding them, such as via clever or google classroom. Does the free version sync with these applications if the school district pays for them already in a rostering way or is that only available in the paid version? TIA!

 @sosborne1 , the integrations you've mentioned need to be configured and enabled at the account level; since Free For Teachers accounts don't come with admin functionality, it's not possible to use them in a free instance. The Canvas Account Comparisons PDF‌ specifies the features that are available for FFT.

Thanks! I already had this document, but it doesn't clearly outline if a teacher could add the canvas app to their own clever account and it would sync over, so that's what I was asking. I understood the admin functions would not be available.
