How can I get notified when a teacher updates a module?
My teacher updates the module for homework and several times it is after I have looked at it (sometime after 6:00pm).
The teacher does not use Assignments or Announcements which I receive notifications for.
Is there a way I can receive a notification when an existing module is updated?
Thank you.
Andrew,
Have you tried changing your notifications in the Account Settings? Follow this page and let me know how it goes. You will want to enable notifications for COURSE CONTENT.
How do I set my Canvas notification preferences as a student?
Welcome, Andrew. You will have to check and see what your rights your school gives you, but you should be able to do it. On the left-hand side, click on account. You'll get a drop-down menu. Click on Notifications. This is where you will be able to set your options as to when and how often to get notifications.
I have all my notifications set ON, and I do get notifications when a file is added nut not when an entry is updated.
See below; under Modules, Homework, January 2019
The teacher updates the January 2019 file to add a line for the date.
Would I be able to get notifications when she updates this?
I have everything enabled to notify me on my current settings, but it does not notify me for this.
It does however notify me for everything else.
Is there a way I can see the date and time my teacher makes an entry?. Is there a log or something?
Interesting. Can I get a screenshot of your notification settings?
Another possibility is that your teacher/school may have overriding notification settings that have that course content notification turned off. I don't know why, but that could be it as well.
Also, what device are you trying to get the notification from? Laptop, phone? What type of laptop? Windows, Chromebook, Mac? iPhone or Android phone?
Do you want push notifications or email?
I would like to be notified by Email.
Laptop-MacBook
Desktop-Windows
Phone-iPhone
Thank you! You do have ALL of your notifications on! I don't think you can under modules, but you should as an assignment, if your teacher makes the assignment.
Jen,
If the teacher changes a Page under a Module, he should get the notification, right?
No. I get notifications that pages are changed, but never modules. I also noticed that this isn't under the course content for notification. He should receive it with a due date notification, however; that has me stumped.
Ok, so it looks like all settings are correct. Double check the email you have there in your account. It is probably automatically inserted by your school, but just check anyways.
Ok, now lets check if your email is "confirmed". Check out this guide: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-13113-4152719736 and look down at the VIEW COMMUNICATION WARNINGS section. Use that to see if you have an invalid email. If it is unconfirmed, click the link address, and then click the Re-Send Confirmation link.
Let me know how it goes.
Email setting is correct.
I do get other email notifications just not when someone updates a page in a module.
The teacher does not use Assignments or announcements to give us homework.
Andrew, ask your instructor if it would be possible for him/her to add a page or assignment, instead of just a module update since there is no way to get an update with a module.

I have the same issue and I’m sure many, many other students do as well. It would be nice if a canvas would create something within itself that if the module gets added info students would get notified. Seems to be a very big issue. Thanks!
