How do I add an external URL as a module item?
If you want to add to add the external document inside content of a module, here's how you can do it. Basically, you would add an item, let's say a page, and put the link in there.

Also, I just want to add one thing. I find that when adding an external document, such as a Google Doc, it's better to embed the document within Canvas. This way, students can see the document right there inside Canvas, and don't have open additional browser windows.

Are you asking how you can put a link in a Word document that will take a user to a specific module in a Canvas Course? If so, then the answer is that you can't. You can provide a link to the course's Modules page, but the link would simply take the user to to your Canvas login page un less the course is public, but even then it would simply go to the Modules area.
I did just try a trick, it is clumsy, but it might work for you................
Try it, and see if it works for you.

Thank you so much. I will try that!
