Missing assignment report

As a teacher can I go to a course and print a missing assignment sheet for each individual student?

Hi  @kdecker  Welcome to the worldwide Canvas Community, and you ask an excellent question which, alas, is not currently possible in Canvas. But you're not the first one to think of it; it is a current Feature Idea and is still open for voting here:  https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/6648-missing-assignment-report .  Also, check  @Renee_Carney ‌'s very last comment at the end, giving more information on the Feature Idea process and the change (just announced today!) to the Feature Idea process.  (The poor woman has been adding that comment on virtually every Feature Idea today and is likely going to be seeing Ctrl/Cmd-V keystrokes in her dreams tonight.)

Why doesn't Canvas have an important tool such as "missing assignments" for individual students?  Parents and kids ask for this all the time and it takes hours for me to type up lists each week for those who request it.  Votes or no votes, it should be part of the program; every teacher would use it.

This would be so beneficial in our study skills class, where students (and I) need to click each and every class to see what is labeled as missing.  It is so time consuming to check 15 students (with at least 6 periods each); such a waste of time when it seems so much easier to populate a "missed" report for all of a students selected courses.

Have you taken a look at the New Analytics screen in Canvas?  There is a report in there that you can run which would provide you with missing submissions from your students.  Check out this Guide: How do I view and download reports in New Analytics?.

I have used the New Analytics, but it's not what I am trying to accomplish.  I'm not sure how to expain my "missing assignment report", except like this.....
(sorry for the long explaination)

I have a Study Skills Class, with 24 students (high school - grades 9 - 12)

Each student has at least 5 daily classes, plus 2 alternate day courses (@ 7 courses in their CANVAS account Dashboard)

At the start of my Study Skills class, students are required to complete a daily log in which they list their courses, current grade for their courses and any/ all missing assignments for each / all courses.

I am not trying to see who is missing work in my class, I am trying to see if I can see what students are missing in their other classes; this allows me to assist them in what they should prioritize while working in the Study Skills classroom.

Currently, students are going to their "view all grades" list, clicking each subject area and looking for assignments noted as missing.  They have recently begun to use the "list view" which will show them missing / late/ graded / assignements; it's a bit easier, but it is still time consuming, as they need to scroll back, numerous days and look at each day in the list view.   

Currently, I need to go to each studnet's grade view (see all grades), look at each individual course and scroll each and every course module of assignmnets; you can't even begin to imagine how long this takes with 24 students, (@5-6 courses each).... looking at grades alone is not sufficient as the assignment may be missing, and not graded so it is not counted into the "overall" grade yet, thus some grades appear inflated and can change dramatically if the assignment is not handed in within specific timelines (for late assignments) according to each teacher's late policy.

Just the other day, I had the students use the "list view" while I monitored their screens (using GoGuardian), but again I could only do this one student at time; this was a little bit quicker but still this takes too long to do this with this number of students.

I just wish students, or I, could run a report that would check for all missing assignments, from a list of selected courses; this would allow students to generate a "missing assignment list" for all of their classes on one file.

Thanks for your response, and assistance, but I truly don't feel that there is an easy fix, though there should be a simplier way to accomplish this task.

On the student end, the easiest way I've found to see missing work is to have them switch their Dashboard to List View. (They can use the three dot "snowman" in the top right of the dashboard. Then, they can click the bell icon in the top right and it should show them all missing work for all subjects. I help them use Ctrl + Click so that each one opens in a new tab.

It would be awesome if this were easily printable, but as long as assignments were marked as "Missing," they seem to show up there.

@Chris_Hofer  Chris -- Dropout Detective (branded as "Grade Guardian" for K-12) does have a feature that allows school personnel to navigate to a student and print out a list of all Missing Assignments for that student on one page.  I've attached a sample -- one page with a higher ed example and one with a K-12 student.

A student came to my study hall and asked: What am I missing in your class? I looked up her name in the gradebook and scrolled through looking for unsubmitted assignments or zero grades. That was tedious and time consuming. I then discovered, after bringing the thought up to one of our consulting teachers, that it is possible to use new analytics to run a report. My problem is that this is also a lot of key strokes and the output is not in a very student-friendly format, which then would have to be printed or saved to pdf in order to email to the student. I think it would be great if students could just have a button to click on that would simply list the assignments that they are missing or have a zero on. A similar button for teachers would be amazing. By the way, I am a first time poster.
