New Gradebook - Override Grade Option

I am working with a number of our institutions on the new Gradebook. One of the positives is the ability to override a grade. However, it appears to me that the grade override ONLY lets one change the calculated grade for another grade that is available in the grading schema. So, one could override a B to give the student a B+.  In our case, the greatest need is to allow the professor to give the student an INCOMPLETE -- which is obviously not a part of the grading scheme (nor could it be, as the number of points earned is really irrelevant).  Is my testing correct - that the override ONLY allows you to substitute a grade from the schema for the earned grade?

 @nancy_lachance ‌, we are experiencing the same issue. We had put in that anything from 0-.01 was an "i," but any student that hasn't completed a single assignment in the course will be assigned an "i." We tried doing negative points, as well as I have tried creating a small section in the middle of the zeroes, but it still will not work. I'm hoping that someone will add the answer here!

I am reviewing some of the older questions here in the Canvas Community, and I stumbled upon your question.  I wanted to check in with you because I noticed that we have not heard back from you since you first posted your question on March 27, 2019.  Have you had the chance to review the replies you received from  @9927744  and  @sbeck1 ?  It looks like they have similar questions as well.  Have you been able to find a solution on your own since you originally posted this question in March?  If so, would you be willing to come back to this topic to share what you've learned?  Or, are you still looking for some help from Community members?  Either way, it would be great to hear from you.

In addition to Jennifer sharing your question with the Instructional Designers group, I have also shared your question with the https://community.canvaslms.com/groups/focus-group-gradebook here in the Community.  If you aren't following either of these groups, you can use the links that I've provided.  You'll see two buttons at the top right corner of each of these groups: "Follow" and "Actions".  Click on both of these.  When you click on "Actions", you will need to further select "Join group".

Just to be clear... this question has not been answered in this thread. If there is an answer, it hasn't been posted here.

So this is an important and open question: How to show an "Incomplete" in the Canvas gradebook?

An Incomplete is a valid value within almost any grading scheme at almost any institution because there can occur external conditions whereby the student does not finish the course on time. Most schools/courses will allow a grace period for certain circumstances. So almost any school will experience a need to show an Incomplete sooner or later.

Why isn't this provided in Canvas?

I am looking for a solution also to override a final grade to an incomplete.  I have students who have incomplete assignments, but the grade shows they are passing.  I would like a way to keep the percentage that says this is your grade for the work you have completed, but the overall score is incomplete. So could it show 90% I, meaning that 90% for the work done but not accurate because there is still more work to do.
