Preview File in Speed Grader

My students are currently uploading their assignments and in speed grader I notice their files are uploading (I could download them to view them. My issue is that instead of previewing the file in speed grader, all I see is a grey screen that says "Open in..." What can I do to fix this?

Hi  @rabideau ...

What file types are your students submitting to you?  There are only certain file types that will be able to be displayed on the main portion of the SpeedGrader screen.  See the information in the blue box at the top of this Guide: How do I grade a file upload submission in SpeedGrader?

They are submitting .pdfs, they do this weekly for their homework and I don't have an issue. The only thing I did differently with this one, was I added a rubric to the assignment.

PDFs should render in the DocViewer of the SpeedGrader without issue.  You may want to reach out to the Canvas tech support people to see if they can look into this further for you.  How to contact Canvas Support  Please come back to this topic to provide an update for us after you've spoken with tech support...thanks!

A rubric shouldn't cause the issues. I think that's fine.

the PDFs may be corrupted upon upload and are not showing in the previewer.

I would suggest:

1. Try using the Chrome browser to view speed grader

2. Download the student's pdf and resubmit it to the assignment - this may refresh the connection.

Which browser are you using? 

Sometimes this can be the culprit for previews

I'm getting the same issue on both the app on my ipad and on my computer with safari.

Preview doesn't work in "quiz" format according to Canvas support.
