Hello!
Help please: I see that my PAST ENROLLED classes (2018-2019) courses are still appearing as published. I don't see the usual bar that has "unpublish/publish" toggle. Anyone know how to UNpublish past enrolled courses? Thanks!
@allison_goldman Welcome to the Canvas Community! On the assumption you're asking as the instructor of those courses, concluded courses that have student submissions to it cannot be unpublished, as mentioned in the Unpublish Course section of https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-13030-how-do-i-publish-a-course
Can you elaborate on what you were hoping to accomplish by unpublishing the course?
Thanks!
I often have students repeat courses if they fail or for higher grades. I'm the lab guy and the lab activities don't change a whole lot from semester to semester. It is really frustrating to have students logging in to past semester Canvas pages and show everyone what they did, in some cases download work from previous semester courses that got reasonable grades and re-submit in current semesters so they and their lab groups don't really have to pay much attention to what they are doing in lab. Not always easy to catch, especially since I have large enrollment lab courses with lots of sections 20+ TAs. I've only been using Canvas for about a year (live courses with students in them) and this was not an issue in the past with Blackboard because I could set a date after which the course would no longer be available to students (or click a check box to make them unavailable immediately - same as unpublishing). I can see that removing all access to everything in the course may be a bit overkill - maybe let students see syllabus and final grade summary after we've had a chance to work out any grading concerns following final grading. I should be able to have more control over what happens after the semester ends. I know we can't completely stop cheating but we should be able to restrict things a bit more than this.
I got a message telling me that I can't unpublish past courses where students have graded submissions when I hover my mouse pointer over the "Course is published" message with check mark next to in on the course details page for one class from this past fall semester.
