Obviously there is major criticism of recent changes to the acceptable browsers that Canvas. Many people have different technologies and different technologies require different. After a couple days of complete frustration, let's give some details to my situation. When I log in to Canvas, I see the following:
I'm sure there's people who see the same thing. I have tried downloading other browsers including Chrome, Firefox, etc. Every time I complete a download, I see the following:
I have a Surface RT, so after asking the Microsoft Community, I was essentially told there's nothing I can do. I can't download any other browser with the Windows I have and I'm not allowed to download the latest Windows, which would allow me to download other browsers.
Millions of people still have IE and I'm sure many of those are students using Canvas. What are those students going to have do?

I suppose that access with the mobile app is acceptable. It is certainly not ideal. This might be a good option for me until Explorer is an acceptable browser again. With that said, it would be extremely appreciated if we can make internet explorer work again. Thank you.
Hi @cainslupski . I understand the frustration that you are experiencing. I can't provide much insight into how to deal with a Surface RT that won't download newer browsers. It sounds as though others using another system and running IE have been able to download different browsers and the issues resolved, but that doesn't help in your situation. I'm not sure if there will be some new option available in coming days, but it appears as though some folks are accessing Canvas through their mobile app successfully. Is this something you may be able to do as well, to complete work until a better option exist? You can try to contact Canvas Support directly (see How do I get help with Canvas as a student?) as well. They may have some suggestions for moving forward.
All the best and good luck.

Hello there, @cainslupski ...
As a fellow Community member like yourself, I know that it can be frustrating when technology isn't working the way we expect it to. Along with the response you got from ericwerth yesterday, I thought that I would also share a posting from @scottdennis (Instructure) where he talks a bit more about supported browsers. Hoping this extra bit of help will be of help to you, Cain.
The truth is, @cainslupski , that IE will never be acceptable again because it is no longer acceptable to Microsoft, as they too are deprecating their support of IE in favor of their new browser product, Edge!

So those of us with Windows RT Devices need to get on to Microsoft so that they will allow us to download the "Edge" browser. Would Canvas consider helping us in this endeavour?

Hi @pat_kennedy
I have no idea, as I do not speak for Canvas. I just help folks out here in the Community.
It never hurts to ask, and you just did, but moving Microsoft is like moving a mountain.

This is just one more example of "Built-in Obsolescence"
Update your system so that older machines become obsolete and the owners have to buy a new one.
Of course, as I posted elsewhere, if Canvas would put its app onto the windows store, then those of us who own a Surface RT8.1 would be able to download the app and continue to access Canvas on our machines.
What about it, Canvas?
