my instructor said my assignment was on private and that i need to change my user settings.

I looked for user settings in canvas in the guides, and other places but nothing found.

Is it the filters or firewalls on my computer or something on canvas I need to change?

Hi  @mcmurpet001  Welcome to the Canvas Community!

I am suspecting that you completed your assignment in MS Word, and that your teacher was referencing the settings for your Word Document. You can "protect" a word document which will require someone to have a password to work with it. If you submitted a protected Word document, then your teacher would need the password to be able to manipulate the document after downloading. I don't use this feature, but I don't think it would keep your teacher from viewing the submission when grading from within Canvas.

Otherwise, I can think of no settings on your computer that would have this impact on an assignment submission.

Your assignment could also have been created in Google Docs and set to Private there as well.  Select Share and then check the Sharing settings. If working within a domain, be sure the link sharing is set to Anyone at _______with the link can view. If outside using a private Gmail account, be sure that it is set "Public" to view.
