What happened today on production with Assignment Enhancement preview course setting?

Very confused. Midday today there seemed to be new features pushed to production if the course setting to preview assignment enhancements was set to "Enabled" (which seemed to happen by default at some point?). 

Anyways it broke our UI. Then a few hours later the entire switch in course settings has disappeared. Any insights?

We were made aware of this yesterday too when a user submitted a support request showing the Assignment Enhancements were active even though we had that feature disabled at the account level.  We checked our account level settings and saw that it was fully enabled even though we didn't change the setting.  We disabled it again and are awaiting a response from Canvas Support to find out how it got enabled.
