Canvas integration with ASIMUT scheduling system
Dear Community
Does anyone have experience with integrations between Canvas and scheduling/booking systems?
Here at The Royal Danish Academy of Music we are using ASIMUT as scheduling system and booking system for our rooms. https://asimut.com/
We need an integration that takes data from ASIMUT like participants and arrangement name and creates a course in Canvas.
Best Regards, Mads

Hey Mads!
We automate Canvas Course creation, but pull the details from our Student enrolment system as it's the primary source. We then add data from our scheduling systems (Syllabus+ and Allocate+) for timetabled activities.
What you're looking at is a pretty big an intricate piece of work - good luck with it!
Please consider the other work that should be paired with an integration like that, like enrolment updates, what happens for each student status, when the course should be opened and shut (and things like supplementary exams extending student requirements for access)...

Hi @Mikee
Thank you for your reply 😄
It does sound like you are actually doing some of what we want, but perhaps I'm reading it wrong.
We need data from arrangements(classes) from our scheduling system Asimut to create courses with participants and name. We don't need data as the actual time of the classes from the system.
Is it not almost what you are doing?
Br,
Mads

Yes - we do that too. 🙂
I'd be getting the course creation details from the actual enrolment system though - the one that feeds the student enrolment details to your timetable system, and then populating students into the canvas courses from the timetable.
It depends what your institute considers the "truth" about who is enrolled and what the subjects look like. Aim for the best match you can, as far towards the student enrolment activity as you can. 🙂
In larger institutions, the flow is usually something like:
[prospective student engagement system] -> [Student Information System] -> [timetabling system] -> [class allocation system]
With the LMS pulling details from the [Student Information System] and one or both of the timetable & allocations system. Student enrolments are usually attached to money, so the SIS is usually pretty tightly controlled, where the downstream systems get less restrictive with the allowable combinations.

Hi @Mikee
Well is does seem like you are doing exactly what we want.
We get all students imported from our AD imported to Canvas and to Asimut. Now we need data from our courses in Asimut to make courses and enroll the students in Canvas.
Do you have any ideas on where and who could help us making this integration?
Best regards,
Mads
