Help! Site-wide Roll
I am attempting to create a site-wide role for the Dean's at our school to be able to view all students and thier grades. This seemed like it would be fairly straight forward process - I had created a site-wide role for our Librarians last week. When I went to create this roll yesterday, it would no show in the Drop-down when I went to assign the roll to users. I contacted support, but it has been escalated and I don't have a response. They can see the roll in the drop-down. I have tried to have other Admins here assign the role - and create a different one. I've tried different browsers and different versions of Windows - nothing works.
Family Weekend starts tomorrow and I have people that need this access. Anyone else have ideas that I can try?
Thanks!
Melissa

Have you contacted your CSM to have them check into it and to see if they can view the role? I know in the past my CSM has been able to get information/answers to us quicker than just going through support.

What role did you base the custom role on? And do you have full account admin privileges? Those are two things that can effect your ability to see the role in the drop-down. Or there could be a weird delay. I've seen that when changing permissions, so it's just a thought.

If you're doing this in your Test instance, I have also seen this problem and have no solution for it. However, I can always create the new role successfully in Production, so I just create it there, then it propagates to Test on the next refresh, and I can use it in Test. This is not a great solution if the next Test refresh is nearly 3 weeks away, however.

If you are interested in a third-party solution, Dropout Detective from Alliance Partner - AspirEDU can satisfy that. With our "Advisor Assignment" capability, we can link school personnel to students. So the school user (deans, in this case) can get a single dashboard of just the students assigned to them, plus easy access to all courses and grades in a single click.

We are giving the Canvas Admins area a little bit of love (especially questions that are really, really old) and just want to check in with you. This will also bring this question new attention.
Were you able to find an answer to your question?
