Hi Justin, the division I work for has been using Catalog for almost 2 years to offer non-credit courses. We use Canvas for both credit and non-credit courses/programs. I've also researched quite of few of the other options out there that are "registration systems for non-credit courses" (I think that's the search term I used) and while Catalog has some deficiencies, it also appears to be the simplest one to implement. All of the other platforms I've looked at are now integrating major CRM functions into their systems because, I think, they're designed to be the only system you need. So if you already have a CRM it could be duplication of efforts (or purchasing a system that you don't fully use). Anyway, I'm not trying to sell Catalog... in fact, I was considering switching away from Catalog as recently as October of this year. But after researching some more competitors I decided I just don't want to go through another implementation at this time. We've learned to live with whatever shortcomings there are in Catalog... partly because we're still ramping up our non-credit business. We're a very small team and mostly focused on our degree and certificate programs.
Catalog has also been making some improvements over the last year so it's not all bad. There's a couple of big areas that need work, imo. Promotions (discount codes). There's only options to limit a promotion code to a one time use per users or unlimited. You can also restrict it to a specific listing (course) but there's no real way to stop people from sharing a promotion code. Being able to limit the promotion code to one-time use or to a single user (or - holy grail - one-time use for a specific user) would be ideal. Well, that and archiving listings is the other thing that I think needs work but I think that's on the slate to be worked on in 2025.
I'd be happy to share our experiences in greater detail if you wish. Feel free to private message me.
