Using HMH LTIs in Canvas

We have added our HMH content into our Canvas Commons and teachers can access materials there to import into their courses.  However, we have three HMH LTI's that show up - but we don't know how to use them as an external tool.  They don't seem to do anything.  We have reached out to HMH for support, but they said to ask Canvas.  However, it's not Canvas' product, so they cannot help.  

Does anyone use the HMH LTIs as external tools when making assignments? If so, how does it work?  I cannot find any documentation online about it, either.

Ok, so I do know a couple things about this tool, but I, too, am looking for answers pertaining to it. What I do know is that of the 3 tool options you listed above, you would use the one that corresponds to your textbook series. For example, we use the HMH Ed platform online, so our linking tool has HMH Ed in the name of it. Also, the reason you might think the tool isn't doing anything may be because the activity you are trying to link does not have the right format to be created. For example, I was trying to link a tutorial and a film clip to as an assignment through the linking tool, and nothing happened. BUT, when I tried linking the "Practice Assessment"  to an assignment, it brought up the dialog box that creates an assignment. Does that answer YOUR question? lol MY question is... once I create that assignment and my students complete it, how do they "submit" it? I have students who have finished online, but I don't see any scores for them or a way for them to submit the assignment! So, even if you DO figure your part out, make sure you have a way to see their work, or it's not much use for anything other than busy-work.

I had that same problem. I had to have them leave HMH, go back into it and then go to their dashboard in HMH ED and hit the start button. Their answers were still saved there and then the blue submit button would show up at the top of the screen. If they use the link in Canvas to go to the assignment, they bypass the start button and then they will not have a submit button. It was frustrating. The fewer steps they have to do the better to lesson confusion. I just put in Canvas instructions to go to HMH Ed and go to their dashboard and do the assignment there, so the integration is pretty worthless without proper training on how to get it to include a submit button through a link from Canvas. Also, I can't figure out when giving an assessment in Ed that is auto-graded, how to get that to show up in my Canvas as well. I pretty much have to go to HMH go to each class, write down student grades and transfer them to Canvas, so it is making more work instead of less for teachers. I would think there is a way to do it, but all the training we have had on it has been, "Look, here is where you find the readings and assignments and leave that area to come over here to writeable" and nothing on how to actually seamlessly integrate the activities into Canvas without students having to jump through hoops.

Yes - I will second the assessment question.  We can't figure that out either.  Overall it has been a very frustrating year with HMH.  Ultimately the challenge is that we can't find anyone at HMH that really knows how to work their product inside of Canvas because they haven't gone that extra step...yet.  

I think most textbook companies will need to do this and are moving that way.  For example this year we adopted elementary math and the Savvas team came in ready to show us exactly how their product integrated and functioned inside of Canvas.  It definitely tipped the odds in their favor.

I am definitely jealous! I voted for Savvas for the ELA adoption and so did all the other ELA high school instructors I spoke with, but the district says HMH got an overwhelming number of votes, so here we are.

I will keep playing around with it and if I can get it to play nice I will write down the steps of how I did it.

We're struggling with the HMH Ed Linking Tool as well.  What we've been prompted to do is create assignments and quizzes using the external tool, but getting the student work submitted is a challenge.  For exams it has been even worse.  And I'm not having a lot of luck finding resources from HMH to help with the integration.  I know there has to be someone out there who has it figured out and any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
