Get all the conversations sent to a user by using Canvas API call

Hi, Canvas Community,

I am trying to get all the conversations sent to a specific user. I read the API documentation https://canvas.instructure.com/doc/api/conversations.html#method.conversations.index

GET /api/v1/conversations

Scope: url:GET|/api/v1/conversations

Returns the paginated list of conversations for the current user, most recent ones first.

"

Wonder where I should put the "user_id" so I can get all the conversations sent to a specific user.

Hi @JiaqiCheng,

I believe you'd need to do this through masquerading as the user you'd like to get the conversations of.  I'll move this thread to the developers area where there might be people with even more knowledge in case i'm incorrect about the masquerading.

HI @JiaqiCheng, it looks like you'll need to Masquerade as a user to get their conversations through the API (just as @chriscas stated.)

Here is some documentation on Masquerading via the API: https://canvas.instructure.com/doc/api/file.masquerading.html

You will need to know either the user ID of the user in Canvas or the sis_id or the user in Canvas (if the sis_id is set). You also need to have the "become other users" permission set on your account.
