Inspecting Course Pageviews API shows repeated calls to unread_count

Greetings :: In some recent analysis I am performing, using the Course Pageviews endpoint gives me many records where the URL is /api/v1/conversations/unread_count. It seems that these this call is triggered by an automated process  but wanted to ask for more clarification on what that may be. To be more specific, I have been filtering out of my data for the particular analysis I am using, but wanted to know what I am actually excluding..
