We have had feedback that the dyslexia-friendly font does not meet the the requirements of many of our students. The current option makes text more difficult to read for some users with dyslexia, and the lack of other options limits accessibility.
As an advocate for inclusive education and accessibility, I believe giving access to additional, dyslexia-friendly fonts would significantly improve the learning experience for students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. Currently, Canvas offers limited font customisation, and while some accessibility tools exist, the platform would benefit from built-in support for fonts specifically designed to aid readability for dyslexic users—such as OpenDyslexic, Dyslexie, or Lexend. These fonts have been shown to reduce visual stress and improve reading fluency, comprehension, and retention. Suggested Enhancements: Include dyslexia-friendly fonts in the rich content editor for both instructors and students. Allow users to set a preferred font for their interface via accessibility settings. Provide guidance or tooltips explaining the benefits of these fonts to encourage adoption. Adding these options would align with Canvas’s commitment to accessibility and universal design for learning (UDL), and would empower educators to better support diverse learners. Thank you for considering this request. I’d be happy to provide further input or collaborate with your accessibility team if needed.
