It would be hugely beneficial for our Canvas administrators to be able to block students using the Canvas inbox. Specifically, we have a harassment case, where this has become detrimental to a student's mental health. While we acknowledge that managing the behavior is our responsibility, it is incredibly frustrating that we don't also have this blocking option to help protect our students. With cyberbullying becoming more relentless and evolved as technology also continues to evolve, I am shocked that we do not have a blocking option in our academic forum to protect our students.
I understand that the inbox feature can be a wonderful tool for student communication and collaboration. For this reason, I am not requesting to "block everything." If we had the option to just restrict certain students from contacting another, that would be ideal. For example: For example, if Student A is harassing Student B, we should be able to block Student A from messaging Student B- without affecting their ability to communicate with others. I do not think students should be able to block each other, as that could also get out of hand. However, simply allowing us to have access and blocking rights within contact lists will help us keep our students feeling safe and supported. It seems like other people are also expressing this issue, however many of those ideas have been archived.
