[SpeedGrader] Allow instructors to edit comments

Problem statement:

Sometimes, an instructor enters a comment and clicks submit, then realizes there is an error in the feedback, or they want to change or add something. Sometimes it is as simple as accidentally entering the wrong student's name. They see the problem and want to fix it, but the only way is to delete the entire comment and enter a new one.

Proposed solution:

There could be an edit pencil button in the rich content editor tools that appear above the comment box in speedgrader. The process of deleting and re-posting is cumbersome and time-consuming. Having a way to edit right from the Speedgrader comment box would save instructor time and provide a better experience for students.

Instructors can edit comments by selecting the edit icon for the score in the grade detail tray:

How do I leave comments for students in the Gradebook? | Edit Comment

If you are unable to see this icon or the grade detail tray, please contact your Canvas support team to report a problem.

To help our Product Teams evaluate new ideas, this thread has been moved to our Will Not Consider status.

@ModeratorPanda Prior to submitting this as a feature request, I posted this as a question in the Canvas Community. @JoseOrcasitas (who I believe works for Instructure) posted that this is not possible and I should submit an idea request. I feel like I'm going in circles here. I am not able to edit comments in the gradebook as in the help article you linked. This was how I did it previously, so I know how, but the pencil icon is no longer there.

Hi @SarahMurphy2 - Just double-checking: With this idea, you are requesting that a grader should be able to edit a comment posted in Speedgrader so it matches the capability of editing a comment in the gradebook?

If yes, I'll return this idea to "New" and have it ready for review by our Product Team. Thank you for your patience as we evaluate ideas that come into the Community as many schools begin a new academic term.

@KristinL Thank you! Yes, I'd like for instructors to be able to edit comments from the Speedgrader screen. It feels like an extra step/inefficient workflow to edit via the gradebook only.
