In both Course Analytics and the new Admin Analytics, average grade data is not based on grading periods. For institutions that use grading periods, the grade data is therefore useless to users. Ex. if an admin uses the admin analytics tool to find student averages that are <60% in March (3rd quarter), the analytics dashboard can't provide accurate information. Further, there may be the false assumption that they are viewing 3rd quarter data rather than an aggregate calculation of all assignment scores since the start of school.
In analytics tools, default to the current grading period or provide a filter to select a grading period. When selected, any grade average data is for the selected grading period.
