I teach hybrid courses, so in addition to the assignments on Canvas, I have to account for the in-class work that students complete as part of their grade. To keep track of this in Canvas, I create a weekly 'assignment' that students do not have to submit anything to. It's just a way for me to give points for in-class work. For example, Week 1 In-Class Work (10 points), Week 2 In-Class Work (10 points), etc... This helps me use Canvas to provide transparent grading that includes Canvas work as well as in-class work. However, it is confusing for students to see these 'assignments' in Modules as well as when they click 'grades'.
It would be helpful to be able to have an assignment or some other method of entering points for activities external to Canvas that is hidden from students. That way it is clear to them they do not have to submit anything and it doesn't cloud their real assignments when they click on 'grades'. It also allows for transparent real-time grading for hybrid instructors and students.
