I would like to propose an option in Canvas LMS to lock an assignment for any future submissions. while not interfering with the due date or "available until" option. This feature could be turned on after the due date or without a due date (see below for explanation). The students can still view the assignment and the assignment details, and those who have submitted can view grade details and question comments, but no one else in the course can submit to that assignment. This would be particularly beneficial to those instructors who set up multiple assignments that students can choose from each week. Additionally, this would be helpful in an instance where an instructor creates a "complete 5 of 10" where each project is due during a certain week, but students have choices of which week to complete them.
This feature was be useful in the drop-down when click on the three dots next to the assignment in the grade book or as a check box in the assignment details. Availability in the gradebook would a a quick click for the instructor/TA to lock it when getting ready to grade or viewing all students who have submitted. Availability in the assignment details would be beneficial for an all-in-one glance for the instructor/TA of assignment information, including the due date.
