[Assignments] Maximum number of moderators - change to limit

Hello, posting this on behalf of an academic:

 

I have a cohort of 350+ students and would like to use moderated marking with this group, involving a relatively large group of moderators (around 40-50) to share the task. Currently, the "Number of graders" assignment setting is limited to a maximum of 10, so this is not possible.

 

The wording of this setting would seem to imply that it is selecting the maximum number of users who can mark any single submission, which would not be a problem. However, what this setting actually does is limit the total number of unique markers across the *whole cohort*. With 350+ students, 10 is a very low limit, and means moderation is essentially unusable for us.

 

A simple change would be to increase this limit to, say, 100 or more. This would not require any further development (just a value change), and would fix this issue that is seriously limiting our ability to use moderated marking.

 

A better solution in the long term would be to change the implementation of this feature so that it is a maximum per individual submission rather than a maximum number of unique markers over the whole cohort.

Problem statement:

We have several courses where Students are aligned to several different Graders for Assignments.  There are up to 25 different Graders available in any given semester/term. For example, Student A may be evaluated by Grader 1, Grader 11, and Grader 15; Student B may be evaluated by Grader 3, Grader 20, and Grader 25; and Student C may be evaluated by Grader 10, Grader 12, and Grader 22.  The Moderated Grading feature only allows for 10 Graders maximum by default.  Due to the matrix way the grading is performed, only the first 10 Graders can submit grades and the remaining 15 are blocked for each Assignment.

Proposed solution:

Provide a way to either remove the maximum number of Graders allowed or change the maximum to 25 Graders as a default.
