In Canvas Credentials, the format of date variables displayed on certificates (e.g. Issue Date or Expiry Date) is determined by the language settings in the browser of the user who is downloading or printing the certificate. However, regardless of the format the date is displayed in, the month name is always limited to three characters (e.g. Apr, Mar, Oct, etc.). For most institutions, this abbreviation of the month name does not meet brand/style guidelines. Moreover, since certificates are often awarded as a formal recognition of achievement from registered education institutions, it's unlikely that having the full month name displayed would go against any institution's style guidelines.
The ideal solution would be to expose a configuration option for admin-type users (e.g. Issuer Owners and Organization Admins) that allows them to specify the format a date variable will appear on a certificate to cater for all possible use cases. Short of that, ensuring the full name of the month appears on certificates for all date formats instead of the abbreviated three-character format may suffice for most cases.
