I use complete/incomplete to grade my discussions. If a student hasn't met the criteria for marking the discussion as complete, I mark it as "incomplete." However, additional postings by the student don't show up in my to-do list. I have to manually scan through the SpeedGrader to find incompletes that need re-grading.
Treat graded discussion postings like assignment submissions. When a student makes a posting to a discussion, it shows up on the to-do list regardless of whether they've already been marked or not. Discussions marked "incomplete" or not graded should be given priority, so they show up at the top of the SpeedGrader list.
