[Discussions] Filtering & Sorting

Problem statement:

There are new sort and filter tools available for Discussions, as of the July updates. The problem is that the filters and sorting options that instructors choose are lost once the instructor leaves the Discussion area, and the instructor has to re-set these filter/sort settings whenever they return to Discussions. I would like for the filter/sort options that instructors choose to be kept until the instructor intentionally changes them.

I would like for the filter/sort options that instructors choose to be kept until the instructor intentionally changes them. Many of my instructors have a preferred sort/filter setting that they want to use and keep and are frustrated at having to re-set those filter/sorting preferences each time they return to the Discussions.

Problem statement:

Some of the recent updates (July, 20, 2024) pushed out have been nice and some frustrating. One thing I do like is the ability to sort Discussions. However, it seems like regardless of the changes you make to the way Discussions are sorted, once you leave the Discussions page, those sort setting revert back to their defaults. I just wanted to check if I was missing something or if this, indeed, is the way Canvas made it? Canvas people, I can't speak for everyone, but I would appreciate if the sort settings I select were kept even after I leave the Discussions page, so I didn't have to re-apply them every time I came back to a Discussion.

Proposed solution:

Allow the sort settings to be saved and maintained even if the instructor leaves the Discussion area or logs out of Canvas.

Problem statement:

I would like your discussions sorted as oldest to newest permanently. Currently, discussion replies are sorted by date in descending order (newest to oldest) by default. Changing it on the 'Sort' menu is a temporary change to your view, which resets when the page is reloaded. This does not change the sort permanently. This is inconvenient as Canvas used to allow sorting to be a permanent change. If you don't make it permenent then I cannot make the sort the way I want it for students.
