[Discussions] Jump scroll in discussions

Problem statement:

When I see the little icon for new discussion posts, e.g. red 7 / gray 30, meaning 7 new posts, I want to click the 7 and have the page jump-scroll to the new posts rather then my having to manually scroll down and search for red dots.

Proposed solution:

If I click the red number, it would jump to the next unread post. And then, let's say that unread post is a reply to post 3. After I read that, the other new messages are all new posts at the bottom. So I need the little red/gray 6/30 icon to float in the right margin so I can click it again and jump down to the next unread message. By "float" I mean similar to what the "comment on this page" or "rate this page" or "start a chat" icons do that float at the lower right corner of webpages like the one I'm typing in right now.

Hello @gilbert, I wanted to get a bit more information from you about this. Are you experiencing this with the current discussions experience or are you using the Discussions Redesign?  

Could you also specify which page you are seeing the "red 7 / gray 30" counter? We show counts in a couple of areas and want to make sure we understand your workflow.

Hi, thanks so much for asking. I didn't know what the Discussions Redesign was, so I googled it and found screenshots. I'm not using that. (I guess if I want that, I need to bug my campus admins to adopt it?) 

I see the red/gray counters after I click Discussions in the left nav. Here's a screenshot.

Hi @gilbert, Thank you for the additional information. I will be marking this as Will Not Consider though as functionality in the Discussions Re-design makes it easier to see new and unread posts quicker. More information about the Discussions Re-design will be coming to the community soon. The Product Blog and feature group are great places to watch for updates.
