[Discussions] Video Discussion Options

Problem statement:

To increase student engagement and community, some of our faculty like to utilize video discussions that require students to post a video in response to a prompt as their initial reply and then, reply to other peers via video. Right now, we are coaching students on how to utilize video tools and embed the video in the Discussion textbox. It is not easy to coach students through this nor can we limit the time permitted for the videos.

Proposed solution:

In the future state, it would be incredible if we could select that the discussion was a video discussion, select the maximum time allowed for the initial reply, and instead of the initial textbox appearing, a video capture screen popped up. The video capture would allow students to record their initial reply directly in the Discussion area w/ the appropriate time parameters, keep or discard and re-record the video, and then, populate the video as the student's initial reply.
