[External Tools] Enable Turnitin for Discussion Posts

Greetings:

Thank you for your time in reviewing this idea.

It would be wonderful if Turnitin were enabled for Discussions posts and responses.

This would prevent students from cobbling together information from online sources to write original discussion posts.  It would be optimal if the Turnitin feature worked like the one provided for assignment submissions, so that students and faculty can see the percentage of match, etc.  This would be another great tool for helping students understand the importance of originality and avoiding plagiarism.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Problem statement:

The issues with students using AI to create Discussion Board posts has become overwhelming, not just for me, but for everyone with whom I speak. In fact, many professors have stopped using it altogether. That's problematic because Discussion Boards are the best way to have online students interact. As it's working now, it's just not feasible to use it.

Proposed solution:

TurnItIn is an option for essays, file uploads, and essay questions in quizzes. This seems like an easy fix, since the technology is already connected to other facets of Canvas. The "why" is that Discussion Boards have become completely useless without it.
