Instructors sometimes still directly upload large media files (video, audio) directly to the Files area of a Canvas course, when it is more appropriate to upload them to the media streaming server integrated with Canvas (Canvas Studio, etc.). I just had to fix a course that had over 10 gb of videos. After moving the videos to Canvas Studio, it was only ~100mb. Using a multimedia streaming server also allows for meeting accessibility requirements, with the auto-generation of captions.
When a large multimedia file (or any video/audio file) is uploaded, prompt the user to consider uploading to a streaming server instead, such as Canvas Studio, or even YouTube.
