Late Policies are an all-or-nothing policy that apply to ALL assignments globally. It would be great to be able to specify some assignments (or assignment groups) to be treated with a different late policy. A few use cases: 1) Some external tools (Mastering for example) have their own built-in late policy handling. When these assignments come in Late to Canvas, students are doubly penalized by both the External Tool and Canvas. Excluding this assignment group from the default late deduction would be great. 2) Some assignments are optional. Excluding these assignments from the "Automatically apply 0s for missing assignments" would be helpful.
I would like to be able to set different Late Policies for different assignments. Ideally, this could be on an assignment-by-assignment basis and/or assignment group basis. For use case #1 above (my most pressing need), I would simply turn OFF the late submission deduction penalty since my External Tool (MasteringAstronomy) already applies late penalties internally. For use case #2, I could turn off "Automatically apply grade for missing submissions" for some assignments.
