[Gradebook] new comment notification

Problem statement:

Currently the instructor has to either check the email report or go through the SpeedGrader to find out if a student has posted a comment to the instructor feedback.

Proposed solution:

It will be helpful to have some sort of notification posted on the assignment page that tells there is a new student comment. This will be a time saver for instructor in going through the assignment submissions.

No, the existing work is to track instructor's comment. The suggestion is to track new comments from the student.

Problem statement:

It is challenging to ensure I receive all student annotations and comments after work has been graded. I have to individually go through the NAU Canvas individual or summary email I receive daily - log into the class, then find the assignment and comment (if it is still there...sometimes students trigger the notice, but don't actually leave a message). If the goal is that we engage through the many communication tools in Canvas, it is important to make them time efficient and apparent to use so faculty can focus on substantive communication rather than technical communication management. This is especially important for courses where assignments build on each other (steps) to a final project/paper where there is a lot of back and forth communication between students and faculty.

Proposed solution:

That a red dot or other signal be included in the Canvas Gradebook next to the respective numerical (or other formatted) grade if a student leaves a new annotation or submission comment. Perhaps a signal could also be available for students so they know to look for a new assignment annotation as well.
