[Import/Export] importing Canvas modules with Quizzes from a colleague

Problem statement:

When I imported a module from a colleague which contained (new) quizzes, they imported as published, and since the date was from last year, zeros were assigned to all 75 of my students, for every single quiz. This caused confusion and frustration. Then, when I unpublished them, changed the date to future dates, and republished, then all of the newly published quizzes still were marked with zeros. I had to delete all of the quizzes, reimport them to a sandbox course, change all the dates, and then re-import them to my course. It was obnoxious.

Proposed solution:

This process can be streamlined by adding imported quizzes as unpublished rather than published, so that the instructor can make the necessary changes before posting when he/she is ready. Thanks for your consideration.

Thank you for sharing this idea with the Community! It sounds like you're doing more work than you should do during the copy or import process. I checked in with one of our engineers who said that imported data does retain the publication state, but the lengthy workflow you experience may be caused by how you imported it. 

When you import the content, can you check the dates and adjust it there?
How do I adjust events and due dates in a course import? 

Alternatively, are you using the "copy to" feature? How do I copy an assignment to another course? 

Either way, the Product Team suggested that you open a ticket with Support so they can see your workflow and accurately capture your workflow. (We believe what you have shared, but we want to fully understand how you work to better understand your suggestion.) After talking with Support, please share your case number and any other take-aways that may be helpful to form this idea. All employees who work with this idea can see the details of the support case too. 🙂
