[Inbox] Like Button for Inbox messages

Problem statement:

Currently, Canvas Inbox does not have a simple way for students or instructors to acknowledge a message without replying. This creates unnecessary replies such as “thanks,” “got it,” or “okay,” which can clutter threads and make it harder to quickly locate important information. Example Use Case: An instructor sends a quick reminder about an upcoming assignment. Instead of multiple students replying with “thank you” or “noted,” they could simply click a Like button to acknowledge receipt of the message. This reduces message volume while still providing confirmation to the instructor.

Proposed solution:

It is proposed to add a Like button (or acknowledgment feature) in the Canvas Inbox. This would function similarly to a “reaction” feature on other platforms, allowing students and faculty to quickly signal they have read or agree with a message. Why this matters: ·Improves efficiency: Reduces unnecessary replies and message clutter. ·Enhances communication: Instructors can quickly see which students have acknowledged a message. ·Aligns with modern user expectations: Most communication platforms (email clients, messaging apps, LMS competitors) already offer similar acknowledgment features. ·Supports engagement: Provides a low-effort way for students to interact and confirm receipt.
