[New Quizzes] Create Item Banks from MSWord

It would be useful that when you create a question [item] bank at the account level being able to upload a huge number of questions once by using a word document. Now, the only way to do this is to create them one by one.

The workflow using Respondus makes a lot more sense, but probably requires purchasing the software.

I have imported 100s of questions from Word docs into dozens of different quizzes and question banks in Canvas. Import via Respondus preserves bold, italic, superscript, etc formatting in Word - no .txt intermediary required. However, sadly and stupidly, Respondus restricts question name to 20 characters in a Word doc, but much more generous importing a text document.

Thank you for the reply.  I don't have access to Respondus.  I guess I will need to find a way to access Bb.  I'm not sure if individual accounts are available.

This would have been a great help in getting so many classes online so quickly.

It is extremely important. There are always students who require paper

activities and tests. You can't create on Canvas and then print in a very

usable form. I and many other teachers need to be able to upload from a

Word document. Other LMS programs have this.

Making the interface very friendly to MSWord Docs would be a great idea--in both directions.

For example: One of the DRC Accessibility accommodations we are asked to provide includes paper exams.

No sooner do I convince faculty to focus on Canvas, then we have a special circumstance and more work to do. 

My institution's frequent issues: The complexity of the quiz banks, managing questions, and getting back and forth from Canvas auto-graded to paper, and back again.

Highest priority request from our faculty:

"Find us an alternative quiz tool to Canvas quizzes.  This replacement does not have to integrate with Canvas.  The inability of Canvas quizzes (including quizzes.next) to support editing quiz questions outside of Canvas and the inability to organize banks of shareable or reusable questions is slowing productivity prohibitively.  We cannot afford this loss of productivity in the current situation (COVID-19) and we need to move to a different tool."

I am running across thread after thread where faculty are looking for easier ways to generate quizzes in Canvas (e.g., word files, etc) but it seems there really hasn't been any advancement (threads easily go back 5 years).  Creating quizzes is particularly odious when lots of images are used (e.g., in anatomy, art history, geology, etc).  Why aren't there new/better ways to making quizzes other than solutions that require: 1) using publisher test banks (which I and many instructors do not like) or using a paid service such as Respondus.  I'm not very tech savvy, but it seems for such a fundamental part of a LMS that this should be more of a priority.

At the very least figure out a way for those of us who make copious use of images in quizzes to click and drag them into the quiz rather that the current process that requires a minimum of 4 clicks with scrolls in between.  Very frustrating and a barrier to entry/use.

Thanks for posting this.  Suggestions like Respondus, I tried it.  It only adds to the workload.  I made a quiz/exam yesterday on Canvas, cutting an pasting from MSWord, embedding images/schematics, resizing etc.  Four hours for twenty questions.   

And this thread has been ongoing for five years.  I don't know about Blackboard, I have read positive comments.  However, I am not about to change platforms, not now.
