New UI Dashboard Default View

It would be nice to be able to have some measure of control over the new UI dashboard. For example, the ability to identify what the institutions default appearance is. Our administrators want it to use the recent activity view as default, but there is no option to change that default appearance away from the course blocks view. Alternatively, the ability to disable a view would allow the same thing in a more restrictive manner.

Basically, when a new student signs in, we want them to see the old dashboard layout, not the new block format.

Please Note: This is regarding the appearance of the dashboard in the new UI (as noted in the title and the first sentence).

If I am reading your Feature Idea correctly, cesbrandt​, this is currently possible via the Administrative Pages of your Canvas instance (assuming you have Admin rights).  If you go to your Managed Account and then to "Settings", you'd want to click on the "Feature Options" tab.  There is an option for "New UI" (in beta) which you can turn on/off.

 @Chris_Hofer , we want to use the new UI. It's only the dashboard page that we're looking for additional control over. Currently there is a toggle switch in the new UI to switch between the course blocks and the recent activity list views. The default is the course blocks (all new users). Our faculty and administrators have expressed a preference for the recent activity list and wish to promote it over the course blocks by making it the default view. This isn't possible without losing the rest of the new UI (the properly responsive design and new navigation).

I see.  You might want to edit your original Feature Idea above so that it is more specific to that view and the toggle switch.  By "old dashboard layout", I thought you were referring to the current UI vs. the new UI.  (Not everyone, including the Technical College where I work, is on the new UI yet.)
