[Quizzes] Can Canvas disable extensions during a quiz?

Problem statement:

Because of Chrome extensions using AI like the Canvas Quiz Solver (https://canvasquiz.com), it has become impossible to give quizzes in Canvas with even a modicum of academic integrity. I am not allowed to give in-person quizzes for online asynchronous classes and Respondus Lockdown Browser is really difficult to use and set up. Can Canvas do anything? Can any extensions be disabled while a student is taking a quiz, as an absolute minimum? Yes, I know they can type things in elsewhere and look things up on their phone, but these extensions are ridiculous and have to be made not to work as a bare minimum of academic integrity. Otherwise, Canvas's Quiz function is going extinct.

Proposed solution:

Make any extensions in a browser be disabled while a student is taking a quiz. Why? To negate the use of AI using quiz solver extensions.

Hi @KirstenThomson - Thanks for raising this! We’ve confirmed that the extension doesn’t access Canvas data—it scrapes visible text and runs a quick web search to suggest answers. Our engineers tested this to be sure.

Moving to New Quizzes can help block this specific tool, and designing assessments that focus on critical thinking is another great way to reduce the impact of tools like these.

We’ll leave this idea in New so our Product team can continue to evaluate it. We appreciate your thoughtful input!

Thanks for your reply. Right, I didn't think it was accessing the correct answers in the quizzes, just using AI to answer them. AI can also answer questions that require critical thinking so that isn't necessarily a help. Looks like other extensions, like aceify, can still access New Quiz questions with screenshots, but Canvas Quiz Solver doesn't work with New Quizzes so that is something I guess. I hope Canvas will continue to look for solutions. I'm surprised Canvas will allow outside companies to use their name in these ways. I won't be using Canvas Quizzes in the same way anymore as a result of these tools.
