We have a closed gradebook at our school, except for one-week each semester. But we still need grades to passback to our SIS (Blackbaud). However, grades can currently only pass back if they are viewable to students. This goes against our ethos as an educational institute. And our LMS should not be the place of record for grades, it should be the SIS. Also, unless we purchase a third-party program, there is not an easy way for our Support Services to monitor how any given student is doing in all classes at one time. But in the SIS, if the grades/assignments are current, they can easily run a report with all that information. By not allowing the passback of hidden grades it is severely hindering how we support over a third of our students.
My solution is to allow hidden grades to passback between Canvas and Blackbaud (or any SIS for that matter). This would allow us to maintain our educational philosophy and maintain an accurate SIS in real time. This would allow us to give the support we need to a third of our students in a timely manner. It would prevent out teachers from having to input the information twice (once in Canvas and once in Blackbaud since the passback won't work) and it would prevent us from purchasing third-party software when Canvas could invest the time and resources into this fix.
