It is time consuming for faculty to figure out whether a student has met discussion participation requirements (many faculty require a certain minimum number of posts). Currently, the easiest way to figure out whether a student has posted the required number is to view SpeedGrader and scroll down the page, counting the number of posts. In New Analytics, we can view the weekly activity per student and see participations - but this is per week and per student - and so requires a lot of clicking and scanning of irrelevant information.
In New Analytics or in SpeedGrader, it would be helpful to log the number of posts per individual student per discussion. It would be helpful if there was a count in SpeedGrader that would quickly show the instructor how many messages were posted by that student, or maybe if on the Grades page we could see the number of posts in each student's cell instead of the icon representing an assignment submission. An additional or alternative solution would be a New Analytics report dedicated to discussion participation.
