Format of comments on student app

Students have iPads and use the Canvas student app. I use a MAC with chrome browser to enter comments on assignments in speed grader. When students view comments on an assignment on their iPads in the Canvas app, the text is jumbled with random characters and symbols. It also occurs when I insert a comment from comment bank. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

We're also having this issue. The characters you see displayed are HTML code. I think this started happening when the RCE was added to Comments in assignments. I'm going to put in a ticket because it's definitely a problem for students trying to read feedback.

As Brendaa stated, this would likely be something you will want to reach out to Canvas support regarding. It appears as though that text is HTML code, which should be displaying as just text to the students (and they shouldn't see HTML). Support should be able to look into this and investigate why this is occurring. You can reach out to them via the "help" menu on the left hand side of Canvas.
